So...like...in the middle of a global pandemic, in the lead-up to the single most stressful and consequential election in my life, while managing a small child, is probably the wrong time to be entertaining self-doubt and hair-pulling about the quality and impact of my recent research program, right?

Likewise likewise! <3 I hope work is less slammy now, though I tend to assume that you are a deadline frog who's always being bodychecked by work to some degree.

Anyway, I'm holding up pretty well! Insert disclaimer about the state of the everything in 2020 here, obviously, and the background stress levels of that, but, like, on the personal level for me, things are pretty okay actually. I like my job! I live with my girlfriend! We have a fuzzy lump of a cat who sleeps with all four paws stuck up in the air!

that is sadly an extremely good assumption, I keep thinking with the eternal optimism of the careerist that this is just a particularly crunch patch and it will let up very soon. and YET.

I feel like we need a whole new vocabulary word for "fine under the circumstances, insert hollow scream here", but I am delighted things are going so well-under-the-circumstances for you! So great that you can live together, that makes such a difference -- and liking your job, that is huge!
