(two posts in as many days! My calendar for the next few months says: don't get used to it ha ha ha help brb freaking out.)
So saiyuki_manga has the translation of Ants of Heaven up. After deleting two screens full of key mashing, I can even say something sensible!
HI TENPOU HI KENREN HI ASHTRAY HI HI HI OMG
No, wait, I'm sorry, that was more key mashing. Let's try this again.
This says non-serialized, which I think means that there will be more but nobody is making any promises about when (yes?). I am curious whether Soukou's mother will turn out to be dead. Soukou's first impressions of his new squadron and Tenpou in particular have more than a little bit of overlap with Kenren's narration in Gaiden volume 2. This is understandable, given the extreme peculiarities of Tenpou's command style, but still. This is something that could've been defused if there had been more about Soukou encountering the personalities of the other soldiers in the squadron, say Eizen in particular -- in other words, a bit more POV shift, about the difference between coming in as a private rather than a commander.
I love that Soukou's first trip Down Below has him face-to-face with the rabid double-headed dragon crocodile thing and thinking, first and foremost, "Oh wow the SKY".
This isn't a story about Kenren and Tenpou, which is right: we know theirs, it was told, it was complete and beautiful and there is no going back. In fact, there's more of Tenpou and Kenren than I expected, more than as an editor I might let in, but, let's face it,
...
sorry, I had to delete a few more screenfuls of key mashing there. Here's athena8's translation,
Don't mind me, I'm just going to be over here on the floor with my hands pressed to my breastbone, trying to breathe.

[Tenpou] “Eeeh---“
[Kenren] “Don’t gimme that ‘eeeh!’ ...What kind of a life were you living before I came?”
[Tenpou] “.....I’m not really sure. My mind has the tendency to delete data that’s unnecessary.”
Don't mind me, I'm just going to be over here on the floor with my hands pressed to my breastbone, trying to breathe.
